How a valuation works

  1. You bring your coinsAs they are, without cleaning them: cleaning can take a lot of value away from a collector coin.
  2. We examine them in front of youExamination under a loupe, weighing on precision scales, magnet test or touchstone test if needed. We identify each coin, its year and its condition.
  3. We make you an offerIt is based on the day's spot price, minus transaction costs and margin; for a rare coin, a premium may be added. It is always stated before the sale.
  4. You decideYou sell everything, part or nothing. If you sell: a written contract, payment by bank transfer or cheque.

Local history

The letter B, the mark of Rouen

Le Havre never had a mint of its own. The region's main mint was in Rouen, further up the Seine. From the 16th century, its coins carry the letter B, the second letter of the alphabet, just after the A of Paris.

Louis d'or, silver écus, gold coins and 5 francs écus from the early 19th century: a B next to the date shows a coin struck in Rouen. Depending on the year, that letter matters a great deal to a collector.

Your questions

Frequently asked questions

Is the valuation free?

Yes. The valuation is free and commits you to nothing: you leave with your coins if the offer does not suit you.

Do I need an appointment?

No, the shop is open Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 7 pm. For a large collection, a call to 02 35 55 00 37 lets us set aside the time needed. The shop is closed on Sundays.

How is the price of my coins set?

For common gold and silver coins, the price is based on the day's spot price, minus transaction costs and margin. For a rare coin or one in very fine condition, a premium may be added; it is always stated before the sale.

How am I paid?

By bank transfer (instant) or by cheque, when the contract is signed. Purchases are paid by cheque or bank transfer, never in cash.

What should I bring?

Your coins, uncleaned, and a valid ID. Sellers must be 18 or over.

Can I change my mind after the sale?

Yes: you have a 48-hour withdrawal period (Article L224-99 of the French Consumer Code), except for investment gold.
